Setting up utilities in Cinco Ranch is less about calling one utility company and more about understanding the district structure behind the community. Water and sewer come from your section's municipal utility district, electricity comes from a retail provider you choose, and trash and recycling are contracted district by district. Because none of it is one-size-fits-all, this guide explains how the pieces fit together and where to check the details for your exact address.
Water and sewer: your MUD, operated by Inframark
Cinco Ranch is served by twelve municipal utility districts, Cinco MUD No. 1 through No. 12, with the Cinco I half of the community covering MUDs 1 through 8 and the Cinco II half covering MUDs 9 through 12. The MUDs, not a city water department, own the water and wastewater systems, and most districts contract their day-to-day operations to Inframark. Before you move, set up water and sewer service with your specific MUD, because the billing contact and phone numbers differ by district.
A useful reminder for newcomers: most of Cinco Ranch sits outside the Katy city limits and outside Houston, in unincorporated portions of Harris and Fort Bend counties. That is why water and sewer here come from districts rather than from a city utility, and it is also why the county and MUD for your address matter more than the ZIP code.
Electricity: pick a provider, not a utility
CenterPoint Energy owns the poles, wires, and meters in the Houston area, but it does not sell electricity. You choose a retail electric provider, and the state's comparison site, Power to Choose, lists the plans available at your address. To start service, give your chosen provider your move-in date and your ESI ID, the meter identifier for the property, and CenterPoint handles the meter. Outages are reported to CenterPoint itself, not to your retail provider.
Trash and recycling: it depends on your district
Each MUD contracts its own hauler, so the company, pickup days, and recycling schedule vary across the community. Haulers seen across Cinco Ranch districts include Best Trash, Texas Pride Disposal, Republic Services, and GFL, and some districts collect twice a week with recycling on a separate day. Check your own MUD's site for the current schedule and bulk-item rules rather than assuming your neighbor's routine applies to you.
Internet, gas, and the little stuff
Fiber and cable availability runs street by street: Xfinity and AT&T Fiber cover many addresses here, sometimes alongside other fixed and wireless options, so type your address into each provider's site to see what is actually available rather than trusting the ZIP code. Natural gas in the area is served by CenterPoint Energy in most communities. Finally, register service using your physical address: district lines, and even county lines, can split a single Katy ZIP code.
