The Light Park at Typhoon Texas Katy: what to know before you drive through

2026-10-26 6 min read By Carol Jukes, Broker/Owner

The Light Park is a drive-thru holiday light show that sets up each November in the parking lot of Typhoon Texas Waterpark in Katy, a short drive from Cinco Ranch. The 2026 season runs nightly from November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027, with admission priced per vehicle rather than per person. Here is what to expect, what it costs, and the rules worth knowing before you load up the car.

The Light Park is a drive-thru holiday light show that takes over the parking lot of Typhoon Texas Waterpark in Katy each winter, and it is one of the closest big holiday-light experiences to Cinco Ranch. For the 2026 season it runs nightly from November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027. The whole thing happens from inside your car, which makes it an easy evening out with kids, grandparents, or a car full of friends, with no per-person tickets to count and no walking to manage.

What The Light Park actually is

The Light Park is not a walk-through event, and it is not the waterpark. In the winter the waterpark rides are closed, and the light show is built in the parking lot at 555 Katy Fort Bend Road. You drive a route of about a mile at parking-lot speed past more than two million lights synchronized to holiday music, including the show's signature long illuminated tunnel. The music comes through your car radio, which you tune to the station the park announces as you enter, with a live host on the broadcast.

Because everyone stays inside the vehicle, the experience works in any weather, and the show runs rain or shine. The organizers describe a typical visit as roughly 30 to 40 minutes on a weekday, and closer to 60 to 90 minutes on weekends and during holiday weeks, when the line and the drive both move slower. Comfortable, unhurried, and entirely weatherproof from the driver's seat.

2026 dates and hours

  • Season: open nightly from November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027.
  • Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 5:30 to 10:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5:30 to 11:00 p.m.
  • The show runs rain or shine, and the venue is cashless, so bring a card or mobile payment.
  • Opening night is November 6, 2026, and the discounted online pre-sale ends the day before, on November 5, so the ticket price is the main reason to decide early.

What it costs, and how tickets work

Tickets are sold per vehicle, not per person. One ticket admits the whole car, however many people are inside, which makes the drive an unusual value for families since four people cost the same as one. The price depends on when you buy:

  • Pre-sale: $29.99 per vehicle when purchased online between October 1 and November 5, 2026, good for any night of the season with no blackout dates.
  • In-season online: from about $49 per vehicle, tied to a specific date.
  • At the gate: about $60 per vehicle, with limited availability on busy nights.

Buying ahead online is the reliable move, both for the price and because popular weekend and holiday-week nights sell out. When you arrive, you join the entry line and present your ticket inside the tent at the entrance.

Vehicle and visit rules worth knowing

  • Everyone stays inside the vehicle for the entire route. You cannot get out to walk, so plan snacks, drinks, and photos from your seats.
  • The route has height and length limits for safety: vehicles must stay under about 10 feet tall and 26 feet long, which fits typical cars, SUVs, and trucks, while limousines, buses, and trailers are not allowed.
  • Bringing your own snacks and drinks is allowed, and the show also sells festive food, drinks, and light-up gear before you enter.
  • Photos and videos are welcome, and pets are allowed as long as they stay inside the vehicle for the whole drive.

How to make the most of the drive from Cinco Ranch

The park is at 555 Katy Fort Bend Road, a short drive from Cinco Ranch with the exact time depending on which section you live in. Weekday visits move faster than weekend ones, so a school night means a shorter line and a quicker loop. Dress comfortably even though you stay in the car, because the windows are likely to be down to the music and the air, and tune your radio to the station the park tells you as you enter. The long tunnel and the large animated displays are the spots people slow down for the classic photos.

What is around it, and what to pair the evening with

Typhoon Texas sits near Katy Mills, so a holiday outing can combine the drive-through with the mall's own seasonal experience if you want an indoor stop before or after. Katy Mills and LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch both run holiday programming in late November and December, and the weekly things-to-do page tracks dates as they are confirmed. One honest note: the waterpark itself is closed for the season, so The Light Park is purely the light show, and separate events like the mall's holiday experience carry their own prices and schedules that change from year to year, so confirm each one before you go.
